Something I get often is, "you stay in such gorgeous hotels, how do you find them?!" - Now, I am no millionaire, but my best advice would be to shop around and don't just settle for the first hotel that makes you say, "that looks.. nice". This is exactly what I did when organising my trip to Berlin, which brought me straight to COSMO, and thank god it did.

Now, you're all probably well aware of my latest cityscape. But to commemorate my time spent there, I've teamed up with a hotel that not only impressed me, but completely blew any city based hotel that I've stayed in out the water.

COSMO Hotel Berlin Mitte is a 4-star contemporary hotel located in a centralised, quiet, yet modern district of Mitte, which I absolutely fell in love with. Comprising of 8 floors and a total of 84 rooms, the hotel has the instant wow-factor yet is completely affordable through its 5 category room options. Targeting business, the arts, fashion and creative clientele, COSMO reciprocates this through their lavish decor which stretches to every inch of the building.

COSMO have kindly gifted my fellow travel loving readers a promotional freebie for booking with them directly. So if there is anyone planning on heading to Berlin, or now being completely and utterly tempted, then please read on to find out my thoughts, feelings and get that all important complimentary gift.

Upon arriving at the hotel, the building itself is a striking, clean-lined, dark grey tower in complete concrete surroundings. The exterior impressed me straight away, so I was even more eager to take a look inside. The first thing I noticed was the revolving door, and then the most welcoming greeting from the reception staff. Check in was super fast and no-fuss, which I think is what you need, especially with guests that are visiting specifically on business.

With it being our very first visit to Berlin, the staff were extremely helpful, like nothing was too much for them. We were kindly given a city map which the lovely man on reception had marked several areas of attractions and personal recommendations. It felt like such a welcoming and positive start to the holiday, and it really was the team at COSMO that did it for us. The map was our complete saviour when navigating on foot and of course, grasping the metro.

The lobby and reception area is relatively small, but I think perfect for the space. The bar area almost acts as a 'walk way' to their in-house restaurant, 'Scent', which connects everything so well. Heading up to the room, I couldn't help but be in complete awe of the lobby area towards the lift. Now, if you've already spotted the picture below, then yes, it was complete marble everywhere you looked, how gorgeous is that.

Fortunately, I think the man on the reception took to us, as we were given one of the best rooms on the very top floor (Room 804). When browsing the rooms at COSMO, you have the choice between, Standard, Comfort, Deluxe, a Suite or Junior Suite, with the price ascending as the list does. We opted for the Deluxe, which is the 3rd tier in expense rate. It set us back just £110 avg. per night, but this was during low season. Make sure you book directly at COSMO Hotel Berlin Mitte to guarantee the best rate.

The room was spacious, light and featured a wide-stretch balcony overlooking the city. The luxury of a balcony option is only available in a handful of rooms so make sure you ask for this as it is not guaranteed. The windows stretch from floor-to-ceiling, with each one also doubling as a door. We were rather excited about the electronic black-out shutters too, this made for an extra luxurious and easy sleep, although it was much harder to get out of bed the next day!

Our Deluxe room also included a mini-bar, king size bed and sitting area, but sadly no tea and coffee facilities although this didn't bother us too much. A personal highlight for me was the bathroom. Too often in hotels, bathrooms can be of an unimportance, meaning they can get quite cramped for two guests to use at once. At COSMO, their duo-sink and power shower with separate toilet area was just ideal for the two of us to use together.

Complete with the bonus of Sky TV and a smart desk, lounging in their extra comfy and quality beds was a delight when we had a night in. I've never felt so cosy and at home in a hotel room before. Maybe this was helped by the fact we were lay in matching COSMO robes and slippers, but even so, the vibe in the room was perfect for complete relaxation.

There was a well equipped gym located on our floor and even a sauna located two floors down. We utilised the facilities in the gym, but didn't get chance to visit the sauna area.

The unfortunate thing about the location for me was the shortage of coffee shops and cafes in the surrounding area. On our last day, we were walking back and forth to find something appealing for lunch when my boyfriend suggested the hotel restaurant, Scent. I usually steer clear of hotel dining, as the majority of the time it can be overpriced and stingy, but this was the opposite.

The restaurant is renowned for its use of organic, fresh and regional foods from chef Ottmar Pohl-Hoffbauer. With his close connections, he believes in sustainable and local produce that he can create dishes to inspire others and please guests.

The menu is small, but with a display of multi cuisines there is still a lot of options. I opted for the seasonal salad with roasted pumpkin seeds, rosemary croutons, mozzarella and vinaigrette which was huge, as you can see from the picture. It was so vibrant and flavoursome for a veggie salad that I wouldn't usually go for on a restaurant menu. My boyfriend had the small Mezze Platter (€12) which contained German delicacies, cold meats, cheese and bread, which was also equally delicious.

We didn't opt for the accompanying breakfast as we thought €18 a day was slightly expensive. We did later regret that after we had sampled the gorgeous lunch at Scent. It's definitely gave us an incentive to return as we can only imagine what the breakfast would be like.

One crucial thing that should sway you to stay at COSMO is the accessibility. The underground metro stop, Spittlemarkt, is situated directly opposite the building. The metro is such a cheap way to see the city as the scale of Berlin can be so overwhelmingly big. Even when we decided to walk on foot, the hotel is in the ideal centralised location to all major attractions such as the Berliner Fernsehturm, Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz.

The second thing I was particularly taken by was that our room was cleaned every single day, which speaks volumes for the quality of a hotel. This included a top of toiletries, fresh bed sheets and fresh towels.

When the time came for us to check-out, we were gutted to be leaving COSMO and Berlin in general. Check out was friendly and extra speedy, which was excellent for us as we were heading straight to the airport to catch our flight. We asked for a taxi which was easily done through the hotels computer system. The receptionist informed us that it would be here in "exactly 3 minutes", and he wasn't wrong.

You can receive a complimentary alcoholic or soft drink on arrival by stating, The Indefinite Diaries: Drink on Arrival, in the 'additional details' section when booking directly through their website and upon check-in. This is valid for all bookings made up until 12/2017, so don't miss out on your little welcome gesture.

Thank you COSMO for such an amazing, welcoming and laid-back stay which topped off my first visit to Berlin. If you're thinking of a possible destination for a city break, I would highly recommend Berlin and of course, staying at the hotel.

You can watch my Berlin Cityscape Vlog to see more of the hotel and city itself. To find out more regarding the rooms, the restaurant and how to book, visit COSMO Hotel Berlin Mitte - you won't regret it.

  1. The COSMO looks so gorgeous! It definitely has a luxury feel, based on your photos, of course. The price per night surprised me, also - considering the way the hotel seems that price seems more than reasonable. And who wants to travel during peak tourist season, anyway? Haha :)
